Hauser & Wirth Somerset is hosting a vibrant ‘GRUPPENAUSSTELLUNG’ celebration that pays tribute to the gallery’s Swiss roots. This playful presentation displays the work of over 20 artists, among them Jenny Holzer, Richard Jackson, Paul McCarthy, Pipilotti Rist and Cindy Sherman to name but a few.
This diverse exhibition draws inspiration from the traditional concept of a Kunsthalle – an institution designed to expose groundbreaking art and discuss contemporary issues to a broader audience. Hauser & Wirth Somerset’s complete site serves as a discovery and interaction platform, covering all five galleries, an outdoor sculpture area, and a cooperative event schedule with Roth Bar & Grill.
Over seven months, ‘GRUPPENAUSSTELLUNG’ will unfold in three stages, presenting immersive installations, solo presentations, and iconic video pieces. Accompanying the exhibition is the Education Lab, which emphasizes Mika Rottenberg’s dedication to eco-friendly artistic practices, a focus shared and fostered by the gallery’s worldwide green teams.
Artists are the heartbeat of the experimental spirit at Hauser & Wirth Somerset, promoting new forms of connection and diverse ways of experiencing art. Numerous artists involved in Gruppenausstellung, like Martin Creed, Rashid Johnson, Allison Katz, and Pipilotti Rist, have lived and worked in Bruton as part of the gallery’s established residency program. These artists find inspiration in Durslade Farm, the local community, and the beautiful Somerset landscape.
The current artist-in-residence, Allison Katz, has developed a series of new exhibition posters displayed throughout the site. For Katz, creating these posters is a playful exploration of typography, language, and graphic design protocols. They also delve into themes of consumption, desire, and memory.
